How to Protest Correctly

05:34

The world seems to be filled with protests and protestors whenever we switch on or TVs or radios or read our newspapers. The unrest has been sparked by the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American who was knelt on for eight minutes by a police officer. As protests continue, as Ahmadi Muslims, what view should we hold?

Regarding the same topic Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has stated:
“A golden principle taught by the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat was that under all circumstances we must always remain obedient to Allah, to the prophets and to the rulers of our nation. This is the same teaching given in the Holy Quran. So, even where a country permits strikes or protests to take place they should only be managed to the extent where they do not harm or cause damage to the economy. "
Let's bear in mind, that there have been protests on and off in the USA for decades but the issue of racism still continues. Therefore, protests alone are never enough to gain rights. The place where we can truly achieve justice and peace, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad has stressed, is by "returning to God" and asking for His Help and, then, alongside protests, we can pursue other democratic and legal means.

In conclusion, if we feel strongly about particular injustices by the government and authority we can write to them, arrange meetings or find other similar methods. First and foremost, though, is the need for us to pray. May Allah guide us in our affairs.
