NEWS: Boris Johnson to reopen schools

05:00

In his speech on Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson informed the nation that years 1, 6 and the reception year might reopen on June 1st. There is no definite reopening plan regarding other years.

There will be measures taken to protect students such as staggering break times, limits on class sizes and some level of social distancing.

Despite this, The National Educational Union describes Prime Minister Johnson’s decision as reckless, with 92% of their 49,000 members saying they disagree with the PM’s decision.

Dr Mary Bousted, the joint General Secretary stated Boris Johnson’s announcement was “nothing short of reckless”. She told Sky News that it was clear that the government had not answered fundamental questions about the reopening of schools. She was also quoted saying that they did not know the evidence that Covid-19 wouldn’t spread in schools, and suspects Boris Johnson doesn’t either.
