MY TAKE: This tragic story really touches me as a black person

09:40

A police man stands accused of killing a black man on the 25th May 2020 by the name of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota after kneeling on his neck for 8 whole minutes.

Footage was recorded of the incident of which he was filmed saying, “ I can’t breathe” to the white police officer on him.

This tragic story really touches me as a black person. Black people should not be discriminated against - especially not by the ones who are meant to protect them. Even in Britain, racism is still felt, even though it is not as extreme as in the USA.

I asked my father on his thoughts of the incident and he said, “The frequent deaths of black people by police officers is indicative that institutional racism is deeply rooted in American society.”

I also interviewed my mother. She said, “the death of George Floyd is not the first of its kind and will not be the last, until people develop the fear of God in their hearts.”

Will Blacks lives ever matter in America and society as a whole?
